In her second collection for Kate Spade New York, launching in May 2019, Creative Director Nicola Glass continues to focus on the new house codes she introduced for spring – always keeping the brand’s core DNA in mind, while staying true to the brand’s promise: Optimistic Femininity. Actresses Julia Garner (“Ozark”), Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”) and KiKi Layne (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), return as brand faces to showcase the Summer 2019 collection.
The campaign was shot by famed photographer and long-time brand collaborator, Tim Walker, a master of narrative pictures and surrealist portraits who first worked with the brand from 1999-2006 under Kate and Andy Spade, and who will shoot all campaigns in 2019. The campaign was styled by Sara Moonves.
“I love the idea of women getting together and creating everyday, informal celebrations, no matter where they are,” shared Nicola Glass, Creative Director, Kate Spade New York. “To me, the nature of improvising these moments is very free-spirited and optimistic. As a brand, we encourage women to be the heroines of their own stories. We are a celebration of women across time zones, generations and style creeds who are living their best individual lives and believe that, together, everything is possible.”
This season ushers in a fresh and eclectic approach to color across all categories, with new takes on colorblocking and unexpected color combinations. Unique, graphic prints continue to be a defining signature of the collection. Elements that appear later in the season – such as summer suede and deep berry-tone colors – allow for an easy transition into fall.
Glass continues to refine design techniques and details, leading the collection to feel sophisticated and current. Delicate styles sit alongside bold pieces, designed to complement one another. Innovative fabrications, thoughtful finishes and fluid silhouettes elevate each category. And the brand’s iconic mark—the spade—continues to be used as a novel design element throughout the collection, integrated both overtly and subtly into patterns, cutouts and functional hardware.
The Summer campaign was shot on location at the Floating Farmhouse in Eldred, NY.
